Solutions to problems essay

The effect of emotional stress on humans

Living in the modern world might not seem to be easy as the fast pace of life and the need to fight for your place in society often results in facing drawbacks of emotional stress. Nowadays more and more people suffer from mental illnesses as a result of not overcoming losses, the pressure of society and other problems.

Not only does emotional stress lead to changes in behaviour and emotional stability, but it also affects the body condition in a negative way. Firstly, many people after experiencing emotional stress end up having depression, anxiety, which are really hard to overcome without appropriate support of people around or even medical workers. For instance, the lack of motivation doesn’t let the suffering ones move on and start afresh-such helplessness might develop into irritability and anger. Secondly, people who have experienced emotional stress can have  problems with their body health as well. Most of them suffer from insomnia-along with a feeling of anxiety; some have stomach aches, headaches, muscle pain. It all stops them from living their ordinary life because the drawbacks of emotional stress are usually overwhelming and they make a person be focused on them only.

Emotional stress is not easy to cope with; however, in terms of solutions, some actions can be taken to reduce the negative effect it reflects on people. Although the ways of dealing with troubles are not the same for each and every person, there are still some common helpful things which can be done by any person. Firstly, it’s very important to be surrounded by some things or people which/who a person will feel happy with as it helps bring inner peace and simply calm down. Secondly, relaxation techniques are essential in the process of recovery. For example, meditation helps focus on the present and forget about the past; massage let the body relax and sort of breath out. Finally, if some actions have already been taken but the negativity hasn’t faded away, there might be a need to see a doctor who will definitely help find and address the causes of such a state.

To sum up, emotional stress has many disadvantages affecting not only a person’s mood but also his/her health. People should be aware of what problems they have in particular so that they will be able to start coping with them from the very beginning, not letting it get a hold of one’s mind.

A summary of an article

The article “White teachers like me should not be policing black pupils’ hair” written by Holly Rigby is devoted to the discussion of the problem of racial discrimination in UK schools.

I’ve chosen the article because I find such a problem vital, and I wanted to learn more about a topic of racial discrimination as I don’t understand why it still exists in modern society.

First, the author draws our attention to black students having afro dreadlocks hair and what problems with white teachers they face because of their appearance. Then she analyses the situation and provides us results of statistics by saying that black people’s appearance doesn’t fit the European standard; therefore, with such hair, they won’t be taken seriously. White people, however, are not judged for their appearance and ways of expressing themselves through hairstyles. She also emphasizes that apart from that, racial discrimination is clearly seen when the leaders anywhere(e.g.in a team/in school) are usually white. Further, the author suggests that white teachers shouldn’t act more strict with students of different skin color, the rules should be the same for everyone. The author concludes by giving an example that in the USA a special fine was already made for special occasions when a white teacher decides to discriminate against black people basing on racial stereotypes. In the end, it is stated that the author hopes that the UK will adopt such a policy.

To sum up, I didn’t think the reasons for teachers being so unfair to black students were clear. And the actual adoption of such a policy is still obscure to me. Some actions should be taken, but it’s not clearly seen which exactly and how it can be made in a society with strong stereotype views.

A reflective note

Hello everyone!

Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts about classes of Academic Writing in this semester.

To begin with, I’d like to start off by telling you about what I found useful. Personally, I really enjoyed watching the International IATEFL Conference which was devoted to learning foreign languages and teaching them. Firstly, the main theme was engaging for me. Secondly, I had a good opportunity to practice listening, which is as important as writing. I’ve learned many important things which are going to be useful for me in my future teaching career. Another useful activity was revising the thesis statement. I always had problems writing it, so during the class, I could figure out and learn the special techniques of making it up, and now I feel really grateful for that.

Nevertheless, there was something I didn’t quite like about our classes. I wish we had discussed our works more often because when we talk, we start thinking and analyzing. Of course, we can do it all online, but I felt a lack of real communication during the class.

To sum up, I want to say that I’d like to learn more about writing using formal style as it’s going to be essential for us when we live the university. Also, I suppose it will be great if we revise punctuation rules more often as they’re easily forgotten, and I think that punctuation is the most difficult part of writing in English as it differs very much from our mother tongue’s rules.

Thank you!
