Solutions to problems essay

The effect of emotional stress on humans

Living in the modern world might not seem to be easy as the fast pace of life and the need to fight for your place in society often results in facing drawbacks of emotional stress. Nowadays more and more people suffer from mental illnesses as a result of not overcoming losses, the pressure of society and other problems.

Not only does emotional stress lead to changes in behaviour and emotional stability, but it also affects the body condition in a negative way. Firstly, many people after experiencing emotional stress end up having depression, anxiety, which are really hard to overcome without appropriate support of people around or even medical workers. For instance, the lack of motivation doesn’t let the suffering ones move on and start afresh-such helplessness might develop into irritability and anger. Secondly, people who have experienced emotional stress can have  problems with their body health as well. Most of them suffer from insomnia-along with a feeling of anxiety; some have stomach aches, headaches, muscle pain. It all stops them from living their ordinary life because the drawbacks of emotional stress are usually overwhelming and they make a person be focused on them only.

Emotional stress is not easy to cope with; however, in terms of solutions, some actions can be taken to reduce the negative effect it reflects on people. Although the ways of dealing with troubles are not the same for each and every person, there are still some common helpful things which can be done by any person. Firstly, it’s very important to be surrounded by some things or people which/who a person will feel happy with as it helps bring inner peace and simply calm down. Secondly, relaxation techniques are essential in the process of recovery. For example, meditation helps focus on the present and forget about the past; massage let the body relax and sort of breath out. Finally, if some actions have already been taken but the negativity hasn’t faded away, there might be a need to see a doctor who will definitely help find and address the causes of such a state.

To sum up, emotional stress has many disadvantages affecting not only a person’s mood but also his/her health. People should be aware of what problems they have in particular so that they will be able to start coping with them from the very beginning, not letting it get a hold of one’s mind.

A summary of an article

The article “White teachers like me should not be policing black pupils’ hair” written by Holly Rigby is devoted to the discussion of the problem of racial discrimination in UK schools.

I’ve chosen the article because I find such a problem vital, and I wanted to learn more about a topic of racial discrimination as I don’t understand why it still exists in modern society.

First, the author draws our attention to black students having afro dreadlocks hair and what problems with white teachers they face because of their appearance. Then she analyses the situation and provides us results of statistics by saying that black people’s appearance doesn’t fit the European standard; therefore, with such hair, they won’t be taken seriously. White people, however, are not judged for their appearance and ways of expressing themselves through hairstyles. She also emphasizes that apart from that, racial discrimination is clearly seen when the leaders anywhere(e.g.in a team/in school) are usually white. Further, the author suggests that white teachers shouldn’t act more strict with students of different skin color, the rules should be the same for everyone. The author concludes by giving an example that in the USA a special fine was already made for special occasions when a white teacher decides to discriminate against black people basing on racial stereotypes. In the end, it is stated that the author hopes that the UK will adopt such a policy.

To sum up, I didn’t think the reasons for teachers being so unfair to black students were clear. And the actual adoption of such a policy is still obscure to me. Some actions should be taken, but it’s not clearly seen which exactly and how it can be made in a society with strong stereotype views.

A reflective note

Hello everyone!

Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts about classes of Academic Writing in this semester.

To begin with, I’d like to start off by telling you about what I found useful. Personally, I really enjoyed watching the International IATEFL Conference which was devoted to learning foreign languages and teaching them. Firstly, the main theme was engaging for me. Secondly, I had a good opportunity to practice listening, which is as important as writing. I’ve learned many important things which are going to be useful for me in my future teaching career. Another useful activity was revising the thesis statement. I always had problems writing it, so during the class, I could figure out and learn the special techniques of making it up, and now I feel really grateful for that.

Nevertheless, there was something I didn’t quite like about our classes. I wish we had discussed our works more often because when we talk, we start thinking and analyzing. Of course, we can do it all online, but I felt a lack of real communication during the class.

To sum up, I want to say that I’d like to learn more about writing using formal style as it’s going to be essential for us when we live the university. Also, I suppose it will be great if we revise punctuation rules more often as they’re easily forgotten, and I think that punctuation is the most difficult part of writing in English as it differs very much from our mother tongue’s rules.

Thank you!

IATEFL Conference
Hello everyone!

Today I'd like to tell you about International IATEFL Conference which took place in Liverpool, UK  from the 2nd up to the 5th April 2019.

There were different sessions at the conference, they were devoted to language learning and teaching. Many teachers all over the world came there to attend kind of lectures of professional speakers.
The topics of the sessions are all really engaging, they give you a hint on the solving issues which real professionals should know how to deal with; however, some of them are even striking as you've never even thought about them.
For example, the session I've chosen is called "Managing individual differences in the language classroom". The topic relates to several individual variables which should be kept in mind while learning languages.

The aspects are the following:

  • age - people of all age can learn languages

  • race/ethnicity/nationality/culture - the importance of knowing the differencies, being aware that all of them are not identical, unless it might lead to cultural shock

  • personality - several types, all of them are important

  • style(of learning) - not the universal one, but the ones suitable for each student

  • strategies - a teacher should give his/her students some strategy knowledge

  • autonomy - give students different tasks to learn which one would help improve their autonomy

  • affect - feelings and emotions can both increase and decrease productivity of studens
aptitude - sometimes it’s not that important as autonomy
  • motivation - the most important factor leading to success; it’s dynamic, complex; it should be kept high for the students.

  • sex/ gender - keep in mind the differences between males and females “to avoid oversimplification and unproductive generalisations”.

Having watched the session, I learnt that teachers should be aware of all the individual variables above mentioned to make the process of learning more efficient for students. I’d like to read more about such variables as autonomy and motivation as I regard them to be the most significant ones and want to learn about them in depth.

Enrich Your Vocabulary for Writing by Using This Website

Hello everyone!

Today I'd like to share with you an interesting website related to writing in English.

The website contains useful tips on how to make your piece of writing better. Not only does it give you ideas to develop in your essays, but also gives you a hint on how to start a blog, how to enrich your vocabulary, etc.

I believe, this website is more for people who want to run a personal blog. Nowadays people make big money on it. Personally, I found it useful as I'd like to have my own blog, so by using this website I'd be able to write coherent and well-developed posts.

Despite being useful for bloggers, the website can be useful for students having struggles with writing in English. The posts are written by natives; therefore, we can observe the tricks and ways of using words and phrases in particular context. Quite interesting, isn't?

For example, one post which I've found extremely practical is about vocabulary.
The post contains a list of vocabulary devided into different sections, all the words given are called power words. They provide particular emotions(like anger, curiosity, fear, etc.) and are really useful for good writing. What is more, the author gives the reader an idea of how to use the words, which context is more suitable for them, and also invites the reader to leave some more useful vocabulary in the comments below.

Hope you'll find smartblogger.com helpful!

Marriage is an outdated institution

People spend years seeking a person they share the same interests and views with. It can be rather challenging to find the right person to spend a whole life with, so when they actually come across one, it is important not to miss the chance. Marrying each other seems to be a logical outcome of long and strong relationships, but does exchanging the vows still work this way? Let me consider some points regarding this issue.

Personally, I don’t think marriage has become outdated as it’s kind of a tradition which never gets old. It brings serious attitude to relationships. It is not the marriage becoming senseless, it is about people not holding their vows. What is the point of getting married to a person and not being serious about it? People take a huge responsibility committing to another person. They should try and do everything to make their relationships even stronger with a passage of time. Moreover, in most cases marriage leads to having a child. It’s better for a kid to live in a family, as married couples have more opportunities as not married ones. In addition, if two people are not bound, and “divorce” takes place, it can be unfair for one person to lose everything he/she had the moment the other person decides to leave.

On the other hand, marriage might seem to be outdated as it is actually not really necessary to prove one’s love by signing a paper. Furthermore, people cannot be sure they’ll love their partner for the rest of their life, not even telling about a year or even less than that, so divorce in such a case might be more painful than just simple separating because the process takes much more time.

To sum up, I think that marriage should never become an old-fashioned thing in many cases, not well thought over, based on emotions decisions, lead to divorces, as people simply do not understand what they are doing when getting married basing on first impressions. People should consider the points wisely and not get married on the spot.

 NSU Guidebook. Study Skills

"Study skills" is something each and every student should work on. Being a student of NSU requires keeping up with the process of studying. You should always be organized,  manage your time and know some tricks of simplifying your studying.

I’d like to give you some ideas from my own experience and from the other students' I’ve interviewed about their studying skills.
Personally, I tend to make planners every week, I need to have every day planned, so as to understand which tasks have to be done and what are the deadlines. I also have daily reminders of my deadlines popping up on my phone, it’s just to keep me aware of them.

Some people I've interviewed told me that they tend to listen to music during the breaks in order to relax and get ready for the next classes emotionally. Others usually have snacks to feel upbeat and more energetic which makes the actual process of studying a lot easier. One student told me that she tries to divide the process into university studying and self-education, not to be drawn only in some obligatory subjects but the ones which really inspire her. If she has to write down many notes or lectures from the classes, she turns on classical music to stay fresh and focused. Also, if some students find any interesting information, they try to put it to practice immediately, not to misunderstand some details, etc.

In addition, NSU holds many different meetups and lectures every month for those who want to learn more about time-management and developing some practical skills.
